       One.
Two.
Three.
Take this moment, relish it. Inhale deeply, give into this foreign serenity.
Shes lying on your chest, motionless for the past hour. The clock ticks its rhythmic beat into the dark quiet room.
Four.
Youre counting her slow breaths again. Her subtle heartbeat. Every now and then she shifts slightly on you, mumbling something. Her dreamy, incoherent nonsense is beautiful. You smile.
Five.
Study her skin, remember her lips, memorise her face. The blinds behind the bed smuggle just enough rays of light from the blue streetlight. Just enough to make out her soft facial features. Her bright eyes are hidden behind heavy eyelids and her eyelashes tremble infrequently as she observes the wonders of her majestic dream.
Six.
Her hair covers her right cheek, drawing a shadow across her face. You raise yours numbed arm and brush her hair gently behind her ear. In response to the warmth of your hand on her cheek she grips her fingers tight into your shoulder, where it rests. She relaxes and for a moment youd swear that you can make out a blissful smile curl on her lips.
Seven.
Thump. Her heartbeat steals your attention momentarily. Thump. Her breasts are pressed closely against your midriff. Thump. She is alive. Thump. She is lovely. Thump. She is yours.
You are overwhelmed with the urge to kiss her, but you chase it away momentarily as a dirty desire, one to disturb her beautiful sleep; followed by something like guilt for even wanting to do such a forbidden thing.
Thump.
She is at peace. All the hurt that ever undeservingly violated her pure existence is gone. Its far away in neverland. Vanished. Forgotten and you stand guard all night to protect her from it. You hug her tighter.
Eight.
I love you. The words linger unspoken over your bodies.
Run your fingers down the small of her back. She shivers even asleep shes ticklish. Her fair skin is all the purity you never deserved. Her warmth is the salvation you arent worthy of. Her weary song is an angelic hymn, not meant for you. You know this, but you take it nevertheless like an undeserving thief.
Nine
Your time together is coming to an end. Feel her drifting away even before shes gone.
I love you.
Grip her close. Inhale. Remember her scent. Remember her warmth. Her innocence. Her safety. Remember.
Thump.
Her mouth is beautiful. It seduces you. The urge to kiss her lips is unbearable and you shamelessly act on it.
I love you.
Feel her breath running down your chest.
Study her skin, remember her lips, memorise her face.
You lean in to touch her mouth but its too late
Ten.
And shes gone. She never was. Youre alone. Youre empty.
