Daisy Chains
Hayley Burdett

I remember those
Days when my
Heart would melt.
You knew how I
Felt about you,
Especially that day
In the field by the
Old farmhouse.
I made daisy chains
From the dainty flowers
That grew wild.
"What a lovely angel
You make," you laughed
And pressed your lips
To my fingers.
The daisy chains
Made a crown,
Entagled in my hair.
The wind made
Your blood stop flowing,
Turned your flesh a deep violet.
Blowing currents
Only made me pink,
Flushed with desire.
Your mouth was
So cold when you
Kissed me numb.
Now, I don't know
Where that field is,
Probably beneath a
Super-K in our
Rural southern town.
Those daisy chains
Remain tied around
My love for you,
But you're deep beneath
That Super-K, too.
