ABOUT THE AUTHOR
For me, writing Poetry is a release. It allows me to express my inner most thoughts, and to deal with life's problems in a productive manner. I never went to college, I decided to take the path less traveled, and believe me it really did make all the difference in the world.

No Ties That Bind
Dustin L Engelbrecht

Once you stood tall
heart full of fire
no chance to fall
while the ladder reached higher.

Life of the party
everyone's best friend
inside truly happy
you didn't have to pretend.

You went where you wanted
the sky was the limit
you recieved everyone's love
and taught how to give it.

Made plans for your life
put your future in motion
lived life to it's fullest
pure compassion pure devotion.

What happened on your path
to set you astray?
put a halt to your life
sent your best friends away.

Left your heart in a closet
threw your pride in the gutter
shattered dreams sullen hopes
no hopes of getting better.

Life is so empty
hearts so full of shame
beaten and tortured
only yourself to blame.

You plan and you dream
theres still a little fire
but it gets snuffed out
without love and desire.

Life is so sad
heart so softspoken
your soul is so empty
your heart, so broken.

Where to go now
what should you do
you think your lifes garbage
you think that youre through.

Hope is still there
mind still has vision
but youre all messed up
its hard to make a decision.

Take a little time-out
reflect back on your life
bring out your demons
deal with the strife.

It hurts for a while
plays with youre mind
but if you deal with it now
the sooner you'll find.

Life's actually happy
with no ties that bind.

"A very confusing poem which could be looked at in many different angles. Who is this person asking the questions? Is he a man of little hope or a man of little fear? An amzing read." -- Robyn Carlson, Taplow, Maidenhead, England.
"Good piece which can be taken a number of ways. I like this very much. ~ From an old friend :) " -- Kristi , Sioux Falls , SD, USA.
"i think this writing hides a mich deeper sadness than is let on.even n underlying anger at the world in general.i suppose you can take it several different ways but i think of despare.i would LOVE to know more about this author please e mail me with any more information.it would mean a lot." -- natasha, jefferson, united states., sd.
"this poem is even more haunting considering some recent events.i would love to hear from KRISTY or anybody else that may know this author.it really would be nice." -- natasha, jefferson, SD, US.
"I think this poem said it all for the author. I knew him and understand it, but wish I would have read it before he passed away because now he is gone and and has left two many loose ends. He will forever be missed!" -- Heather, North Sioux City, SD, USA.
"Heather is right this poem says it all for this aurthor, i knew him and understood everything he wrote, He will be missed always and loved forever. RIP my friend the hurt is over." -- Jessica, North Sioux City, SD, US.
"I just felt I need to contribute here having been the author's confidante and partner the last four years. This poem was written many years ago but it rang true up until his passing. But it did not define all of who he was. Even amidst pain and struggle he shed a light on all around him. He was wise beyond his years, generous, and kind. The world and the hearts of those that loved him have lost a precious soul. Love you always." -- Rae, IA, USA.
"I is hard to say in words that other people that didnt know Dustin would understand. Know this he was a friend, and coworker for 3 years. Wise beyond his years was a true statement. I will miss my friend, and he was my brother. The world is now a lessor place without Dustin! All of his friends will truly miss him! PEACE AND LOVE BE WITH ALL HIS FAMILY!" -- James O, Omaha, NE, USA.
