Reconciling My Spirit
Jina Kaye

I am a woman.
I know I am a woman--
from my shape to the workable parts
to the history of women that runs
     through my veins--
I AM A WOMAN.

But for some, I am just a body--

-A body that can be used to violate
-A body that is used to satisfy others
-A body that is used for protection, even
     to those who abuse me
-A body that is seen as competition in
     order to excuse insecurities
    -A body some never want
-A body some will always pursue
-A body that is meant to give, and give,
and give -- but never to receive or relax

I can no longer just be a body.

I am some body.

I am my body -- and soul -- and spirit.

For today and every day,
   I reclaim my humanity.

I am a woman.
  I am a body.
    I am valuable.
      I am worthy.

I am not the body to violate.
I am not the body to be used.
I am not the body to take abuse.
I am not the body to scapegoat on failures.
I am not the body that is never wanted.
I am not the body to covet.
I am not the body that drags on wearily
because I don't take care of myself.

NO!

I am reconciling my spirit.
I am proclaiming to be my own person,
living within this body, and EVERYTHING
  that goes with it.
I am going to live my best life...
One day at a time.
