Fine Things
Annacat

Whether coming or going
Always leaving never knowing
Why life turns a certain way
Questions too afraid to say
And answers not forthcoming
Did something fall apart
Or was it never there
At the start

But I can see the pain
Of a confusion ever plain
That forgiveness so offered
Would make a lighter day
In quiet moments when careless
Words can damage lives
Forget all regret it brings
We will only say fine things

Imagine what we put
Ahead of parenthood
The door forever shut
As if we ever would
Place our own interest aside
Leave them along for the ride
Our signed agreement sings
In quiet moments we promise
We will only say fine things

Do you see just how hard
It is on both of them
So young to stare one thousand yards
One more time again
But we ignore our promises
Forgetting any vestiges
The nightmare that it is
However hard it stings
We will only say fine things

How ruthless is the truth
Of the mirror of our lives
Pretend we never knew
As we clench our eyes
Make believe the bandage
Of oft repeated lies
Can repair the damage
Shown with each sunrise
Whether coming or going
Always leaving never knowing
Wisdom or hubris of kings
We will only say fine things
