Empty Street

you smile at the day with contempt,
walk light with an aura of purpose,
yet the clouds are heavy with rain,
the winds blow with a cool touch,
sending shivers down your spine,
left alone to wander empty streets,
where ghosts of childhood speak,
they whisper of what used to be,
happiness, joy and being truly free,
and even for this one split second,
you see your old home alive again,
glowing lights warming your bones,
your mothers call igniting your soul,
yet reality creeps in the shadows,
bringing you back to that fake smile,
left standing alone on an empty street,
pouring down rain so cold, so alien,
with only memories of a life so sweet,
