Johnny Cash's Life
Weird Willychuck

Johnny Cash was born on February 26, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas. He was the son of a cotton farmer, and had 8 siblings. He grew up in the cotton fields, and kept working even when his brother tragically died in a sawmill accident. In 1952, Cash went to Germany to enlist in the air force, and it was there that he would first become aquainted with the music business. When he arrived back home, he married Vivian Liberto in 1954, and settled in Memphis. Their first daughter was born in 1955. That same year, he would form a band and record for the Sun Records label. Along with Marshall Grant and Luther Perkins, they would record such hits as, "I walk the Line," and "Folsom Prison Blues." Around this time, Cash became addicted to drugs, and went on a popping spree up until 1967. He would divorce his first wife, long after recording such hits as "Ring of Fire." He married June Carter Cash, and they settled in a cottage home in Hendersonville, Tennessee. They would have one son, John Carter Cash, and they would remain married for 35 years. Cash would record many more songs, such as "Man in Black," and "One Piece at A Time," even when his record sales were slowing down. In 1986, his record company no longer needed him, and he was left without a contract. It wasn't until 1993 that Rick Rubin, a rock producer, invited Cash to perform on his "American Recordings" label, and Cash accepted. He would record new songs such as "Hurt," and "Rusty Cagem" even after debilitating illnesses slowed him down. Cash died on September 12, 2003, at the age of 71.
