Pet Peeve Essay

I absolutely hate with a passion, when people sing along to songs in public or just around me. When I hear a good song come on, I want to hear the professional singer, not some loser on the street who is too drunk to know whats going on, or some teenage punk who thinks he is the man! I like quality music; I dont like people who think they can sing but really are awful at it. I just want to yell, Look you dont have a record label for a reason, so you should probably shut up! Music is a calming substance at times, but not when some snot nose little brat is behind you in a concert singing in their little raspy squeaky voice off to lyrics he doesnt even know!
I was in the car the other day with a few peers of mine. A great oldie came on the radio that I hadnt heard in a long time. Great! I thought to myself, Some good tunes finally! All of a sudden one of the guys sitting next to me started to mouth the lyrics. Oh please no! I thought to myself, If he starts to sing Im going to freak out! Well about a minute later, he is still lip singing, Alright thats ok, I thought to myself. I lay my head back to rest and listen when all of a sudden, he bursts out singing! His horrible uncontrolled out of tune voice started blaring out a song. He sounded like a cat being thrown in water, kicked in the side, swung around by its tail, and then thrown through a tree shredder! I couldnt take it, I finally yelled OK stop, none of that! He stopped pretty fast, and looked out his window. The song ended and I was finally in some peaceful state of mind. Another song I really liked came on and the first thing that came to mind was, He better not say one word or I am going to throw him out of this car! I laid there for a moment waiting for him to sing, but he didnt say a word. The chorus came on and he blared out again with it! Oh my Gosh, He only knew the freaking chorus! I couldnt believe it! I was screaming in my mind, AGGGHHH! Theres no way this is happening! He had the nerve to only sing the chorus, and none of the other parts of the song!? You dont hear people only playing a part of Mozart that they know, you hear them play the whole thing! This kid only knew the chorus, and was acting like he was getting all into it! He started gesturing with his eyes closed and pretending to be dramatic! By this time I was contemplating either ripping my ears off, or just simply shoving my hand down his miserable little throat and tearing out his voice box. That was it, I couldnt handle it, and I finally yelled Shut up! He stopped suddenly and gave me a look like Whatever dude and continued to stare out the window again. It ruined the rest of my day. I was so frustrated I wanted to slap him across the face as hard as I could with a two by four, with a rusty nail in it. To this day, when I see him even starting to lip sing, or saying that he likes the song that is playing, I shut him down as fast as I can.
I dont really know for sure why it really bothers me the way it does. I guess part of it is that I would never butcher or ruin a song for someone else. I find it disrespectful to the artist and myself to absolutely butcher some great songs in the way some people do. So for anyone who reads this, do those around you a favor and just dont talk, sing, or lip sing when you are around anyone, especially me!
